About.

Welcome to my cyber-cosmic spatial-temporal existence. There’s a whole lot that makes a being, and here are a few things about ever-evolving me.

The Constants (ish): I’m a mother to two little humans, a woman of color, software engineer by background, a technology leader, adventurer with family and friends, and a kind person. Work at Google as an Engineering program manager in a field I’m passionate about — Responsible AI — to make AI systems equitable for humanity. International bestselling author of the STEM book series “Ara”. Public speaker featured in numerous media, keynotes & TEDx talk. Board member at Grand River Hospital Foundation. A forever learner who thrives at the intersection of (technology, creativity, social impact).

The Variables (ish): Other things that fire my neurons are spinning wheel-thrown pottery in my home studio (@kind.klay), watching spy thrillers, reading books (various genres), globe trotting, community volunteering, championing causes related to women in tech and human rights, meditation & deep zen (gotta stabilize them neurons!).

The Output (ish): My words and work have featured in Forbes, Globe&Mail, Financial Post, The Social, CTV Morning Show, CTV Pop Life, The Record, Daily Hive, Google, TEDx, tech conferences, and more. My books are levelling the playing field for girls to close the gender gap in tech. Our teams have launched many innovative products used by millions around the globe. I’m humbled to be the recipient of community awards. My little humans think I’m a decent mom :) And I continue to stretch the limits — not the ones imposed by Moore’s law, but the ones that are self-and-societal-imposed — to evolve and become better!

Author.

"Oh mamma, engineers are boys", said my then 4 year-old daughter. This inspired me to create and author the STEM Book Series - Ara.

The books are on a mission to inspire kids, especially girls of color, to explore technology. They introduce computational concepts in a whimsical manner. A big focus is to increase representation by showcasing real-life trailblazers from diverse backgrounds as fun characters. The books have been translated and published in 10+ languages, and have received numerous recognition globally.

The main characters ‘Ara’ & her droid ‘DeeDee’ <beep> roll by the motto: “Childhood is magical, technology is whimsical, representation is monumental!”. The stories expose kids to the stellar life algorithm: courage, creativity, coding, collaboration.
